UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a directive to give $15 million to rehabilitate the West Bank city of Jenin and its refugee camp. Jenin and its camp, which is inhabited by Palestinian families, were recently attacked by the Israeli army in its biggest assault there in 20 years. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the UAE’s aid aims to provide urgent assistance to Palestinian families and support the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Sheikh Abdulla had discussed the cooperation between the UAE and UNRWA during a phone call on Wednesday to UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini. For his part, Lazzarini appreciated the continuous support provided by the UAE for the UNRWA, the latest of which was the allocation of $20 million early this year. In Jenin, at least 13 Palestinians were killed and more than 140 others injured after hundreds of Israeli troops stormed the camp on Monday (July 3), firing missiles from drones and tearing up roads to clear them of what they said were militant roadside bombs.
