UAE health minister takes first dose of Covid-19 vaccine

  DUBAI – The UAE’s health minister was given the country’s first dose of coronavirus vaccine developed in a joint test operation by the UAE and China. “By presenting this vaccine, we seek to provide all safety means for the heroes of the first line of defence,” said Minister of Health and Prevention Abdulrahman Al Owais. The vaccine was developed by Chinese drug maker Sinopharm and tested on more than 31,000 volunteers in the UAE. The tests proved that the vaccine is both safe and effective against Covid-19, officials said last week as the UAE approved its use on frontliners during “emergency situations”. “We want to protect them from any dangers that they may face due to the nature of their work,” Al Owais said.
