Arab woman and her daughter suffered from first-degree burns after a water heater malfunctioned in a hotel restroom in Ras Al Khaimah. According to the court documents, the plaintiff and her daughter were in the bathroom when the ceiling collapsed, and the heater fell on them. They sustained first-degree burns as well as several bruising and wounds. The mother complained to the hotel and the maintenance employee. The mother sued the hotel and its maintenance staff, requesting that they pay Dh21,000 in restitution for the physical harm and emotional distress that resulted from the mishap. An inquiry established that the two defendants in the case, particularly the second defendant in charge of the hotel's maintenance department, were negligently responsible for the physical and emotional harm to the plaintiffs and their bodies. Investigations revealed that the heater's failure was due to improper installation. A court in Ras Al Khaimah ordered the maintenance department official with Dh1,000 and forwarded the case to the commercial court. BKM/ Expat Media
