The UAE’s Ministry of Education has announced that public school students will have remote classes on Fridays during Ramadan. The initiative aims to provide students with more time to spend with their families during the holy month. The decision is part of the Ministry’s “Ramadan with the Family” initiative, which encourages students to participate in family-oriented activities at home. The Ministry said the initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision of fostering family bonds and instilling Ramadan values in young minds. However, the Ministry clarified that the rule does not apply to students who have pre-approved exams scheduled on Fridays. Parents who prefer their children to attend school on Fridays can do so, but they must arrange their own transportation. Teachers will be present in schools to supervise students and ensure regular class schedules continue for those attending in person. “We want to create an inspiring atmosphere where children can bond with their families while continuing their education,” the Ministry said in a statement. The Ministry also circulated a guidebook containing various educational activities that students can engage in at home with their families. These activities include art projects, storytelling sessions, and cooking traditional Ramadan dishes. The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources also announced shortened working hours for government employees during Ramadan, from 9am to 2:30pm Monday to Thursday, and from 9am to 12pm on Fridays.
