A newly issued UAE Cabinet resolution has introduced a single structure on the pricing of charging electric vehicles. The revised fees require service providers to charge a minimum of Dh1.20 plus VAT per kWh for express charging and a minimum of Dh0.70 plus VAT per kWh for "slow" charging. The resolution, published in the Official Gazette last July 8, will take effect on September 6. The new structure will attempt to standardize the EV charging cost, which currently ranges widely, and regulate the establishment of charging infrastructure. The government has held the right at its own discretion to amend the fees whenever it feels necessary. This move occurs after the launch of UAEV, the nation's first government-owned EV charging network, and plans by ADNOC for the setting up of more than 500 new fast and superfast chargers. It is likely to spur investment in renewable sources of energy, like solar panels, and encourage the use of sustainable transport.
