The Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed that the UAE was subjected to what it described as a “blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles” on Saturday (February 28). According to the Ministry, UAE air defence systems “dealt with the missiles with high efficiency” and successfully intercepted several of them. Authorities also responded to falling debris in a residential area, which resulted in material damage and the death of one civilian of Asian nationality. Officials said the country’s overall security situation remains stable. The Ministry also confirmed that a second wave of Iranian missiles targeted the UAE on Saturday afternoon, with the Ministry of Defence confirming that "the threat was handled with high efficiency, resulting in no damage." According to the Ministry, debris from the latest intercepted missiles on Saturday afternoon fell across several areas of Abu Dhabi, including Saadiyat Island, St. Regis Abu Dhabi, Khalifa City, Beni Yas, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, and Al Falah, confirming that no injuries were reported at the mentioned locations. The Ministry strongly condemned the attacks, affirming the UAE’s categorical rejection of any targeting of civilian facilities and national institutions. It described the incident as a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian safety and undermines regional stability. The Ministry stated that the attacks constitute a violation of national sovereignty and international law, adding that the UAE reserves its right to respond and to take necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens and residents. It affirmed its full readiness to confront any threats, stressing that the safety of citizens, residents and visitors “remains a top priority that cannot be compromised.” The Ministry of Interior said it is closely monitoring regional developments and remains at the highest level of readiness in coordination with relevant authorities. The Ministry added that it will keep the public informed of any necessary precautionary measures. Both ministries urged residents to rely on official sources and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information. The incident follows Israel’s announcement that it had launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran, escalating tensions across the region. ICA/WAM/Expat Media
