UAE to introduce new freelance work policy

The UAE will be introducing a new policy allowing all employees to be able to do freelance work on a flexible work permit, according to a report on Wednesday (March 15). “We are working on introducing a new freelance policy that adopts all skill levels,” Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation Abdul Rahman bin Abdulmanan Al Awar told Gulf News. Al Awar explained that the new freelance policy will allow all employees to have a flexible work permit, allowing them to do freelance work as long as they are registered with the ministry. He also said that the new work model will allow employees to be freelancers on self-sponsorship so they can take on any kind of job or multiple jobs, and work from anywhere in the world. The new work policy is aimed at supporting the UAE’s existing flexible work and remote work models. The official said the target implementation of the policy is before the end of the third quarter this year. The UAE’s current Freelance Permit is restricted to certain jobs in the Education and Media sectors. It is given to self-employed individuals or owners of independent businesses.
