The UAE Government has announced tougher new penalties on driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs as part of changes to the federal decree law that will come into effect on March 29, 2025. Under the updated law announced on Friday (October 25), driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be punished with jail time and a fine of between Dh20,000 and Dh100,000. The violator’s driving licence will also be suspended for at least three months for the first offence, six months for a repeat offence and a cancellation of the licence if the violation is repeated for a third time.
