The UAE Government has announced tougher new penalties on jaywalking as part of changes to the federal decree law that will come into effect on March 29, 2025. Under the updated law announced on Friday (October 25), jaywalkers could face imprisonment and a fine of between Dh5,000 to Dh10,000 if the offence results in a traffic accident. Currently, jaywalking is punishable with a fine of Dh400. The updated law also increases the penalty for jaywalking on highways. Pedestrians who are caught jaywalking on roads with a speed limit of 80kmph or higher will be penalized with jail time of not less than three months, and a minimum fine of Dh10,000. ICA/Expat Media
