The UAE began enforcing a revised federal traffic law  on Saturday (March 29) that significantly increases penalties for jaywalking, with fines reaching up to Dh10,000 in certain cases. Previously, jaywalking carried a fine of Dh400. However, under the new law, jaywalkers who cause an accident may face penalties of up to Dh10,000. For crossings in areas with a speed limit of 80 km/h or higher, the penalties are even stricter, with a minimum of three months in jail and/or a fine of at least Dh10,000. “These stricter laws will not only protect motorists but also pedestrians. It is a crucial step toward making UAE roads safer for all,” the UAE government stated. Authorities urge pedestrians to use designated crossings and follow traffic signals to ensure their safety and avoid hefty penalties.
