Authorities in the UAE and Kuwait have successfully foiled an international drug smuggling attempt, seizing over 100 kilograms of crystal meth and heroin valued at approximately Dh13.6 million. The joint operation was carried out by the UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) in cooperation with Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior, following intelligence that a sea cargo container carrying narcotics was en route to Kuwait as part of a coordinated effort by an international drug trafficking network. In a statement posted on social media, the UAE Ministry of Interior said, “We proudly affirm that this cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Interior and its Kuwaiti counterpart embodies a unified vision to combat the scourge of drugs and strengthens mutual trust between us in protecting our communities.” Authorities confirmed that after receiving the tip-off, a tight surveillance operation was launched in cooperation with Kuwait’s General Administration of Customs. The container was tracked after leaving Shuwaikh Port, with authorities monitoring it until the recipient—a man of Afghan nationality—was caught red-handed in the Amghara area. The Kuwait Fire Force assisted in opening the container and conducting technical checks to ensure the safety of officers involved. Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al Sabah, thanked Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for the “fruitful cooperation and intelligence information” that led to the successful drug bust. “This joint effort underscores the strength of the fraternal relations between our two countries,” Al Sabah said, emphasizing the continued importance of cross-border collaboration and information sharing to combat organized crime. Investigations into the wider drug network are ongoing.
