UAE shows solidarity with UK following horrific Manchester Arena bombing

  DUBAI - Iconic buildings in the UAE displayed the colors of the British flag as a show of solidarity with Britain following the bombing outside the Manchester Arena last Monday night just after a concert by American pop star Ariana Grande in the 21,000-seater venue. The Burj Khalifa – the world's tallest building – was lit with the colors of the Union Jack as well as the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and the Galleria Mall on Al Maryah island. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement condemning the attack and reiterated the UAE's stand against any forms of terrorism. Twenty-two people, including an eight-year-old girl, died in the huge explosion that was caused by a suicide bomber who detonated himself outside the arena. Fifty-nine others, mostly girls in their pre-teens and teens, were seriously wounded in the blast. International condemnation of the attack came swift as various world leaders expressed outrage over the bombing.
