The UAE is launching a super satellite named after President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Dubai announced. It will be the most advanced satellite in the region in 2024, said Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. “In 2024, we will launch the most advanced satellite in the region... a satellite named after Mohamed Bin Zayed,” Sheikh Hamdan said, “Our efforts to reach the moon continue through the Rashid 2 Explorer mission.” Sheikh Hamdan made the announcement on Monday (October 2) at a meeting with the board of directors of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre. “We are still at the beginning of the road... and the best is yet to come for the Emirati space exploration journey,” he said, adding that in 2024, astronauts Mohammed Al Mulla and Noura Al Matroushi will be ready to undertake new space missions. Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE’s next step is to have “qualitative Emirati projects in the space sector”. “We want to be a major player in shaping the future of space exploration.
