The UAE has officially introduced the Blue Residency Visa, a new 10-year residence permit aimed at recognizing exceptional contributions to environmental protection, sustainability, and renewable energy. The announcement came during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, where the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, alongside the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security, unveiled the first phase of the program. Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to sustainability through strategic initiatives like the Blue Residency. “The Blue Residency reflects the wise leadership’s vision to attract innovators and pioneers in climate change and sustainability, ensuring that their contributions support our ambitious environmental goals,” she said.

First phase: 20 pioneers selected

In its initial rollout, 20 distinguished thought leaders and innovators in sustainability will be granted the Blue Visa. These individuals are recognized for their significant impact in environmental protection, climate change, and clean energy sectors. According to Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security, the visa application process will be available 24/7 through the authority’s website and mobile app. “This initiative ensures that those who have made remarkable contributions in sustainability can fully benefit from this long-term residency,” he stated.

Who is eligible?

The Blue Visa is designed for four key groups: Influential environmental leaders – Individuals who have made outstanding contributions and demonstrated a positive global impact in sustainability and climate action. Scientists and researchers – Those with significant achievements in environmental science and climate change research, subject to nomination by the Emirates Scientists Council. Investors and entrepreneurs – Business leaders in environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and climate innovation. Specialized professionals – Experts working in governmental and private environmental organizations within the UAE. The UAE has positioned itself as a global hub for sustainability, continuously launching forward-thinking initiatives to attract top minds in environmental innovation.
