The UAE has unveiled a Dh750 million plan to expand Emirates Road (E611), one of the country’s busiest routes, in a bid to slash congestion and enhance connectivity across emirates. The project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, will expand a 25km stretch between Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain from three lanes to five, increasing road capacity by 65 percent—up to 9,000 vehicles per hour. Interchange No 7 will be upgraded with the construction of six new bridges capable of accommodating 13,200 vehicles per hour. Work is set to begin in September and will take approximately two years to complete. “This project represents a significant step towards realising the UAE’s vision of establishing an integrated road network that meets the needs of the population and economic growth,” said Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. The Emirates Road is a 110km highway that serves as a vital alternative route to Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, allowing commuters to travel from Ras Al Khaimah to Abu Dhabi without passing through central Dubai.
