UAE Health Ministry Launches First Nationwide Diabetes Screening

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) launched on Thursday (October 5) the UAE's first National Prediabetes and Diabetes Screening, offering free diabetes checks for private and public sector employees. The year-long programme will cover all seven emirates using screening centers that offer immediate access to physician consultations, lifestyle coaching, and treatment options. MoHAP encourages entities and residents in the UAE to join the diabetes screening program. The yearlong MoHAP and Merck Gulf initiative, which is also supported by UAE health authorities, BinSina chain of Pharmacies, Al Manzil Healthcare and AlTadawi medical group will engage the UAE population by targeting public and private sector workplaces. Those working there will be offered free screening, with digital risk assessment questionnaires followed by HbA1c tests for those at risk of prediabetes and diabetes. The campaign also includes follow-up consultations at three months and six months. Individuals can call the hotline 800-DIABEAT for updates if they are diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes during the campaign. Data collected from participants in this campaign will be analyzed to test the effectiveness of the early detection and immediate intervention through lifestyle modification in reducing the risk factors and consequently the incidence of diabetes in the country.
