The launch of 1,000 prefabricated houses in Latakia, worth Dh65 million, will help Syrian families recover from the earthquake.

The UAE's Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has started a housing project in Syria's Latakia Governorate, including 47 prefabricated units in the Al Naqa’a area. This project is under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to build 1,000 prefabricated houses in seven areas in Latakia, worth Dh65 million, to help Syrian families affected by the earthquake in February. They inaugurated this housing project to celebrate World Humanitarian Day. Hamoud Al Junaibi, acting ERC Secretary General, said these two-bedroom units will run on solar energy and can accommodate six people. A committee, including members from local development, Latakia Governorate Council, Syrian Arab Red Crescent, and other relevant authorities, chose eligible Syrian families. Amer Hilal, Governor of Latakia, thanked the UAE for their support in Syria since the earthquake. The Al Naqa’a housing project will help several families who lost their homes in the earthquake, he added. Latakia Governorate prepared seven areas covering 10 hectares for these houses, along with basic necessities like sewage, electricity, phone networks, and service centers. JG/Expat Media
