UAE launches new initiative to boost Emirati talent in the tourism sector

A new initiative has begun to expand the number of UAE nationals working in the hospitality and tourism industries. The 'Explore the Tourism Industry in Dubai' program has been launched by Medyaf, an industry nationalization initiative at Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), which is part of Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism. According to a press release, the project aims to provide Emirati talent interested in working in tourism with the necessary information and skills through an intensive program of interactive seminars, field visits, practical experiences, and hands-on training. Medyaf was founded in 2016 with the goal of attracting, training, and encouraging UAE people to work in tourism-related jobs. Last month, Medyaf offered two workshops as part of the initiative: the first was held in Al Seef Heritage Hotel and drew 10 participants, while the second was held in Hilton Dubai Jumeirah and drew 11 attendees. Both workshops included theoretical and practical exercises in an engaging, participatory setting, allowing participants to learn about hotel operations, hospitality, and the principles of culinary arts while also receiving hands-on instruction. Mariam Al Maeeni, director of Industry Nationalisation at Dubai College of Tourism, said that they are delighted to launch the Medyaf ‘Explore the Tourism Industry in Dubai’ initiative, inspired by the constant efforts of the visionary leadership to boost the economy by providing opportunities for Emirati talent to excel across sectors. “The initiative is also in line with the important role played by Medyaf in supporting the UAE’s industry nationalisation strategy, which aims to support and bolster Emirati talent and increase the number of UAE nationals entering the tourism sector," she said. Medyaf, according to Al Maeeni, is a comprehensive public-private partnership that comprises a variety of immersion seminars, training events, and industrial activities that contribute to the expansion of the tourism sector while also helping to diversify the national economy.
