The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) launched a new polymer Dh100 banknote on Monday (March 24). The banknote, which enters circulation starting March 24, will coexist with the existing Dh100 paper and polymer bills, all of which remain legally valid. Banks and exchange houses have been instructed to update their systems to ensure seamless acceptance of the new note. "We are pleased to announce this special issue in conjunction with the Eid Al Fitr celebrations,” said Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of CBUAE. “The new Dh100 banknote reflects our commitment to the leadership's vision for a sustainable future through initiatives and achievements that support Net Zero and enhance the nation's financial competitiveness. Its design embodies the country's ambitious aspirations for future progress and prosperity while honoring its historical and cultural heritage," Balama said. The distinctive design of the new Dh100 banknote preserves the traditional red color scheme while incorporating modern artistic elements. On the front, it features the historic Umm Al Quwain National Fort, symbolizing the UAE’s rich cultural heritage. On the back of the note features the Port of Fujairah, a vital shipping hub, and Etihad Rail, the railway network connecting the emirates and expanding into the GCC. These elements highlight the UAE’s journey as a global economic hub, emphasizing its commitment to development and connectivity.

Enhanced security and sustainability

To prevent counterfeiting, the new banknote includes SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS technology and a multi-colored security chip (KINEGRAM COLORS). It also features Braille symbols for visually impaired users. Polymer banknotes are known to be more durable and environmentally friendly, lasting twice as long as traditional paper. ICA/Expat Media
