Renewing or replacing the Emirates ID just got easier for UAE citizens. The UAE has rolled out a one-step system for Emiratis, removing unnecessary fields and cutting red tape as part of the second cycle of its Zero Bureaucracy Programme. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security announced on Tuesday (September 9) that citizens now only need to submit an application and pay the fees. The system will automatically determine the card’s validity—10 years for citizens aged 21 and above, and 5 years for those under 21—mirroring the UAE passport process. For replacements, the card will carry the same validity as the existing ID, with applicants unable to change it. Non-essential fields, such as address details, have been removed, while the new application template fits neatly on a single page. “The process is carried out in a single step, consisting of submitting the application and paying the fees,” according to the authority. The streamlined service is now available via the authority’s website and mobile app, ensuring faster and smarter access to Emirates ID renewals and replacements. ICA/Expat Media
