UAE law: Can you work for two employers at a time?

Under the UAE’s updated labour law, an individual can have two jobs under different employers at the same time. Employees with a full-time job can have a part-time job, provided they get a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). The fee for a part-time work permit includes an application fee of Dh100 and an approval fee of Dh500. Expats caught working for another company without a permit will face penalties and the company that hired them will be fined Dh50,000.

For people on a work visa

Expatriate employees with a valid work visa and UAE nationals can take up a second job upon getting a part-time work permit from MoHRE. The part-time work permit is valid for one year. Part-time work permit holders are allowed to work in another company at the same time as working in the current company on a part-time basis for less than eight hours per day.

For people on family visa

Residents on a family visa can take up a second job after getting a part-time work permit with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the sponsor. Such work permits can be issued to those between the age of 18 and 65.

Part-time contract system

In 2018, MoHRE implemented a new rule allowing companies to hire employees under the part-time contract system. This applies to college graduates and those with a diploma in any technical or scientific field. Under this new system, part-time contract employees can take several part-time jobs without the approval of the original or other secondary employers; however, they must get a permit from MoHRE.
