A 20-year-old man was fined Dh5,000 after stealing Dh20,000 from a woman by saying he would help her deliver the money to a resident she owed money to. The Arab man was found guilty of embezzlement by the Al Ain Court of First Instance. According to official court documents, the woman gave the money to the young man so he could give it to the woman from whom the plaintiff owed money. The woman had said she would sue the plaintiff for the delayed payment. The defendant offered to help the two women by acting as a mediator. But when the plaintiff gave the money to the man, he took it and spent it on himself. He also tried to avoid the plaintiff, who later discovered he failed to give the cash. The plaintiff then took the defendant to court for criminal charges. After looking into the case, the judge decided that the defendant should pay a Dh5,000 fine. He was also told to give the plaintiff back the Dh20,000 he had taken from her and pay her legal fees.
