UAE: Man keeps money after tricking customer into buying a luxury watch for Dh80,000
A man seized Dh80,000 from a resident after claiming to sell him a nice watch and refused to hand it over. The offender has been ordered to repay the money. The Abu Dhabi Appeals Court affirmed an earlier verdict by the Civil Court of First Instance, which ordered the defendant to pay Dh5,000 in damages. According to official court documents, the defendant agreed to sell his costly watch to the complainant via Snapchat. According to the buyer's claim, he agreed to acquire the watch for Dh80,000. So he deposited the money into the seller's bank account and waited for him to deliver the watch. However, the seller refused to hand over the watch, leading the complainant to haul him to court. He also sought Dh20,000 in monetary and moral damages from the seller. After hearing from all parties, the civil appeals court judge upheld an earlier judgment by the first court, which ordered the defendant to repay the complaint Dh80,000. He was also told to pay an additional Dh5,000 in damages. The defendant will also pay for the plaintiff's legal expenses.
