A young man has been ordered to repay Dh200,000 to a woman for promising her marriage and marrying another woman instead. The ruling was made by the Al Ain Civil Court of First Instance, ordering the Gulf national to repay the money to the woman. According to court documents, the young man met a woman of the same nationality as him, and they became acquaintances, which led to a relationship. He expressed his desire to marry her but was hampered by his financial circumstances. He told her that he wanted to marry her but couldn't because of his financial position and that he couldn't afford the wedding. The woman said she trusted the man after speaking with him for a long time and seeing his seriousness and devotion to their wedding. She claimed she transferred Dh200,000 to the defendant's account for the wedding. However, as soon as the man received the money, he avoided her and refused to answer her phone calls. She later learned that the man had married another woman. As a result, she filed a legal suit against him, demanding that he refund the money she gave him. The court ordered the man to refund all of the money he obtained from the woman after hearing from all parties. The defendant was also ordered to pay the woman's legal fees. BKM/ Expat Media
