In Abu Dhabi, a woman filed a civil lawsuit against a man in his early twenties for stealing her car and committing traffic violations while driving it. The defendant had committed Dh508,000 worth of violations. The plaintiff demanded that the traffic fines he accrued in her name while driving her car to be cleared and transferred to his file. The woman also requested confirmation from the traffic and licensing departments that all traffic fines incurred by the stolen car had been removed from her record. According to the lawsuit, the man stole her car and kept it until authorities apprehended him. Investigations revealed that the man had committed several traffic violations while driving the woman's car. After being found guilty of theft, the Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced him to a year in prison. He was also fined Dh500 for committing traffic violations while driving the woman's car. The woman then filed a lawsuit in Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court, demanding that the defendant pay the fines or that the violations be removed from her traffic record and registered in the defendant's name. After investigating the case, the court discovered that the plaintiff had not paid the required court fees, so her lawsuit could not be accepted. The court dismissed the case for failure to pay court fees. In his ruling, the judge stated that the woman had not presented any documentation to prove that she had submitted a request to the head of courts for a postponement of the court fees or an exemption from payment. The woman was ordered to pay the defendant's legal fees. BKM/ Expat Media
