A federal appeals court has overturned the sentence of an Asian man, along with two other people, who had been given life in prison for having drugs and selling them. The man was also cleared of the charges due to a lack of evidence. Official court documents said that three men were arrested in Abu Dhabi because they were suspected of possessing and selling drugs. The Drug Enforcement Department of the Abu Dhabi Police got a tip from one of their sources that one of the Asians had drugs and was selling them. The man was contacted by an undercover agent pretending to be a buyer. They agreed to sell him drugs for D550 at a certain place. When the man got to the place where they were going to meet, police officers who were hiding nearby and watching the deal came and arrested the dealer as he traded drugs for money with the undercover agent. The police searched the man's car and house and found more drugs and substances. Both the Criminal Court of First Instance in Abu Dhabi and the appeals court had already given the first and second defendants in the case life sentences. The third man, however, had been found not guilty. The lawyer for the second defendant went to the federal appeals court to challenge the decision. He said that his client was wrongly convicted and sentenced because there was no proof that he passed or sold drugs. After all, police found nothing in his possession when they arrested them. After looking into the case, the judge decided to remove the second defendant's life sentence and clear him of the charges because there wasn't enough proof against him.
