The UAE marks Commemoration Day on Thursday (November 30) to honour the country’s fallen heroes. Commemoration Day, previously known as Martyrs' Day, recognizes the sacrifices and dedication of Emirati martyrs in the field of civil, military and humanitarian service. In previous years, Commemoration Day was marked as a public holiday, but in recent years, it has been marked with a public holiday on December 1, which comes a day before the UAE National Day, another public holiday, on December 2. This week, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced that December 2, 3 and 4 will be a paid public holiday for private sector employees.

UAE initiative for martyrs’ families

The UAE's leadership has implemented a comprehensive strategy focused on addressing the affairs of martyr families, including housing programmes, comprehensive healthcare, educational support, and various social welfare initiatives, all aimed at ensuring the stability and welfare of the families. The UAE has launched the "Abnaa Al Fakhr Camp," which is being organised by the Martyrs' Families' Affairs Office. The camp aims to receive the sons of UAE martyrs, with a view of consolidating authentic Emirati skills and values through various activities derived from the original UAE heritage. ICA/Expat Media
