UAE marks Flag Day on November 3

DUBAI – The UAE marks Flag Day on Wednesday (November 3), with individuals, schools, companies and government offices raising the national flag at 11am as a show of patriotism. UAE Flag Day was launched in 2013 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to celebrate the accession of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, when he became the president of the UAE in 2004. On Wednesday, the national flag is displayed inside and outside workplaces, building and homes. This year’s Flag Day coincides with the Year of the 50th celebrations. The colours of the UAE flag stand for courage (red), hope (green), honesty (white) and strength of mind (black). “The symbol of the state, sovereignty and unity of the past fifty will remain with us for the next fifty to establish belonging, loyalty and love to the soil of the Emirates,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
