Under the UAE’s updated media law, individuals and entities could face a fine of up to Dh1 million for publishing content deemed insulting to religious beliefs. The law, aimed at promoting responsible media conduct, lists a range of violations with varying penalties. "Insulting the Divine Essence, Islamic beliefs, or other heavenly religions and beliefs" is considered one of the most serious offences, drawing the maximum penalty of Dh1 million. Other violations include: • Promoting immoral content: Up to Dh100,000 • Inciting crimes like rape or drug abuse: Up to Dh150,000 • Disrespecting national institutions: Up to Dh500,000 Licensing breaches such as operating a media outlet without a valid license or publishing content after license expiry are also penalized, with fines ranging from Dh10,000 to Dh40,000.
