Labour disputes worth Dh50,000 or less in the UAE’s private sector will be resolved by January 1 under the updated law that puts the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) in charge of the matter. The new process is aimed at expediting the process for claimants to collect their legal entitlements in labour cases related to private companies and workers, as well as domestic workers and recruitment agencies. Under the amended law, the MOHRE will issue a decision on labour cases with claims of Dh50,000 or less. MOHRE’s verdict can be appealed by either party at the Court of Appeals within 15 working days of being notified of the Ministry’s decision. The court then schedules a hearing within three working days. For disputes exceeding Dh50,000, the MOHRE can also refer cases to the relevant court for a resolution in case an amicable settlement is not reached. ICA/Expat Media
