The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) took "administrative action" against an Emirati employer who hired 43 family members to take advantage of Emiratisation rates and benefit from Nafis. Companies that exploit the Nafis system through false Emiratisation can be fined up to Dh100,000 for each bogus Emirati employee. According to the ministry, no clause prevents relatives or family members from being hired. However, Emiratisation would be categorized as fake if done to exploit the benefits of the Nafis program. The Nafis is a UAE program to hire more Emiratis in the private sector. It offers benefits and incentives, including salary support, child allowances, pension and unemployment benefits. Fake Emiratisation is when an Emirati is enrolled in a company's records without real work or if an Emirati is rehired in the same company to misguide the authorities. Violators face administrative penalties and legal action. The financial support and other benefits offered by Nafis will also be suspended and violators will be asked to repay the disbursed amounts. Under UAE law, companies with 50 or more employees must raise their Emiratisation rate in skilled jobs by 2 percent per year. Starting in 2023, violators will be fined Dh6,000 per month. The ministry has expanded inspections to monitor fraudulent Emiratisation around the country. The MoHRE began filing fraudulent Emiratisation data this month. The ministry opened channels for employees, employers, and community members to report violations via its call center on 600590000 or through the ministry's app or social media pages.
