Sharjah government employees will enjoy an extended five-day weekend in celebration of UAE National Day, authorities confirmed. The holiday period will begin on Friday (November 29), coinciding with the emirate's regular weekend, and extend to Tuesday (December 3). Regular operations will resume on Wednesday (December 4). The Sharjah Human Resources Department announced that December 2 and 3 would be official paid holidays for the public sector, allowing employees a long break to mark the 53rd UAE National Day, also known as Eid Al Etihad. This holiday commemorates the unification of the Emirates in 1971. In addition to Sharjah, the UAE government declared similar holidays for ministries, federal entities, and private-sector employees across the country. Under the unified holiday policy, private-sector employees will also enjoy a four-day weekend starting Saturday, December 1. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) stated that equal holiday policies across sectors ensure all employees, regardless of their field, receive consistent benefits. For many Sharjah residents, the five-day weekend presents a chance for family gatherings and local celebrations. "This extended holiday is a blessing," Didarul Alam Uddin, a Sharjah resident, told Expat Media. "It gives us enough time to relax and also join community events." With several festivities planned, including parades, concerts, and cultural programs, the extended break is expected to boost tourism and local spending. Authorities have urged the public to participate responsibly and enjoy the celebrations while adhering to local regulations.
