The UAE is gearing up for a historic weekend as the inaugural UAE National Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship takes place on January 25 and 26 at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi. Organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the two-day event marks a significant milestone in the country’s burgeoning combat sports scene. Originally planned as a one-day event, the championship was extended due to an overwhelming number of registrations. Athletes from across the UAE will showcase their skills in various categories, including youth and seniors. New additions, such as the Youth D category for ages 11–12, reflect the championship’s commitment to inclusivity and talent development. “The addition of the Youth D category is a game-changer,” said Mohammed Jassim Al Hosani, a member of the Federation’s MMA Committee. “This initiative not only expands the base of practitioners but also provides young athletes with a platform to hone their skills in a competitive environment.” Participants will also compete in Youth C (12–13 years), Youth B (14–15 years), Youth A (16–17 years), and Seniors (18 years and above). The event promises a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, setting a high standard for future MMA events in the region. Al Hosani emphasized that the championship aligns with the UAE’s vision to support sports and athletes. “This event meets the highest international standards and serves as a stepping stone for emerging talent to participate in global competitions,” he said. “The inclusion of the seniors category enriches the overall competition, allowing younger athletes to learn from seasoned fighters,” Al Hosani added.
