The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has announced three new scholarships for Filipino students in the UAE who wish to pursue undergraduate or master’s degrees in medicine and other medical-related fields at universities across the emirates. The scholarships, funded by the UAE government, honour the memory of frontline workers from 14 nationalities who lost their lives in the UAE during the Covid-19 pandemic. The embassy will shortlist and endorse up to 10 qualified applicants, with final scholarship recipients to be selected by UAE authorities. Officials said the initiative recognises the sacrifices of healthcare workers during the pandemic while investing in the next generation of Filipino medical professionals who could contribute to healthcare systems in both the UAE and the Philippines. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance and a clear commitment to serving the healthcare sector. Selections will be based on academic excellence, financial need, community service experience, and a demonstrated motivation to contribute to healthcare either in the UAE or the Philippines. The scholarship is expected to provide major financial relief for Filipino families seeking quality medical education, as tuition costs for medicine and related degrees in the UAE can run into hundreds of thousands of dirhams over several years. Students currently enrolled in UAE medical universities may also apply, provided they meet all eligibility requirements.
