Fraudsters Target UAE Online Sellers on Bank Holidays

UAE authorities are warning the public about scammers creating fake buyer accounts online to trick sellers. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) shared on Instagram that scammers usually target individuals selling used bicycles or devices, or items that don't involve ownership documents, on online platforms, and connect with the sellers after creating fake accounts online. On bank holidays, scammers deliver a fake cheque or other financial instrument to the seller, and making sure that the seller does not cash the cheque that same day. The item is then handed over to them in a location not covered by CCTV cameras or other forms of security, according to the ADJD. The difficulty in arresting the offenders is one of the problems with such transactions. JG/Expat Media
