UAE residents urged to change PIN for credit card, debit card

The Ras Al Khaimah Police (RAK) General Command cautioned residents on Thursday (February 23) about online fraud, advising bank customers to change the PIN of their credit card or debit card to avoid identity theft. RAK Police announced the start of a campaign to raise awareness of cybercrime and provided several instructions in a video message on safeguarding bank accounts from thieves and criminals. The advice includes keeping credit card numbers private and periodically updating passwords. Shopping should always be done on legitimate websites, and card information should never be saved on a suspicious platform. People abroad are also advised to use credit cards with extreme caution. People must refrain from using debit cards when traveling and should choose specialized cards with limited balances for online purchasing. Residents should prioritize changing their passwords and PIN codes after their vacation. This will stop fraudsters from stealing information, reduce their digital footprint, and stop them from copying credit card information.

How to avoid being scammed online?

— Do not disclose your PIN or OTP for your credit or debit card to anyone. — Change your PIN from time to time, especially after traveling. — Ensure that you are shopping on credible websites. — Shop online with a post-paid credit card. — Call your bank immediately if you discover any suspicious transaction using your debit card. — Beware of rewards offered in cash or in-kind on the internet and social media. — Avoid providing personal or financial information to suspicious websites. — Use strong, difficult-to-decode security passwords that include uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special symbols. The "Be Aware" campaign, which aims to raise awareness of cyber fraud and extortion, was also launched by Sharjah Police on Tuesday (February 21). The campaign involves disseminating awareness messages via print, audio, and visual media and social media websites and platforms.
