The UAE passport has ranked 5th globally in the Henley Passport Index 2026, marking the strongest long-term rise recorded by any country in the index’s history. Based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the index shows that UAE passport holders now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 184 destinations worldwide. This represents a gain of 149 destinations since 2006, the largest increase achieved by any nation over the past two decades. Dr Christian H. Kaelin, Chairman of Henley & Partners, said the UAE’s rise reflects sustained diplomatic engagement and long-term strategic planning. “The UAE’s rise on the Henley Passport Index is without parallel,” he said, noting how political stability and proactive foreign relations have translated into greater global mobility for citizens. The UAE now ranks ahead of traditionally strong passports such as New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Canada, and the US.
