 UAE citizens can now renew their passports up to one year before expiry, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced. The new rule, effective Monday (August 18), replaces the previous six-month renewal window and allows UAE nationals to apply if their passport’s validity is one year or less. Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the ICP, said the decision aims to enhance quality of life for citizens, giving them greater flexibility in planning international travel and completing official transactions. “This decision reflects our commitment to providing proactive, world-class services and expanding the use of secure digital documents,” Al Shamsi said. He also highlighted that the UAE passport continues to rank as the world’s most powerful and widely recognised travel document. “This move further strengthens its global standing and reinforces the UAE’s position as a leader in passport issuance and renewal systems,” he added. The service will be available through the ICP’s smart services platform.
