Motorists across the UAE will pay more for petrol in May, after the UAE Fuel Price Committee announced higher fuel rates effective on Friday (May 1). Super 98 petrol will cost Dh3.66 per litre, up from Dh3.39 in April. Special 95 will increase to Dh3.55 from Dh3.28, while E-Plus 91 will rise to Dh3.48 per litre compared to Dh3.20 in the previous month. Diesel prices will remain unchanged at Dh4.69 per litre. The increase marks a month-on-month rise across all petrol categories, adding to fuel costs for motorists and businesses that rely on daily transportation. Fuel prices in the UAE are adjusted monthly in line with global oil market trends, including international crude prices, supply and demand, and geopolitical developments.

UAE exits OPEC after nearly six decades

Meanwhile, the UAE has announced that it will officially exit the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and the wider OPEC+ alliance starting May 1. The decision, announced on Tuesday (April 28), ends nearly 60 years of participation after Abu Dhabi first joined the organisation in 1967. Officials said the move is part of the UAE’s long-term strategic vision to expand its energy sector and enhance flexibility in oil production. “This decision follows a comprehensive review of the UAE’s production policy and its current and future capacity and is based on our national interest and our commitment to contributing effectively to meeting the market’s pressing needs,” according to an official statement. Authorities stressed that the UAE will remain committed to global energy market stability and cooperation with oil producers and consumers. CAM/Expat Media
