Numerous drivers in the UAE are facing fines for placing unauthorised stickers on their vehicles, often unaware that, a seemingly harmless sticker, costing just a few dirhams, could lead to hundreds in fines. This experience resonates with many motorists across the UAE, who may not know that placing stickers on their cars, especially on windows or fuel tank covers, without authorisation could lead to hefty fines. Several residents have even shared their experiences on social media, hoping to raise awareness about this often-overlooked regulation. Police regularly run awareness campaigns to educate drivers about sticker-related rules. Legal experts explained that, under Federal Traffic Law No. 21 of 1995, unauthorised vehicle stickers are illegal and incur a Dh500 fine per day, which is repeated daily if not removed. This applies to all types of stickers that obscure the license plate, driver’s face, or any details that may hinder traffic police work. Only stickers promoting company products or services with prior approval are permitted. The federal law applies across all emirates, with violations leading to fines, black points, and even imprisonment for severe cases. Additionally, Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 imposes a Dh500 penalty for unauthorised stickers or phrases on vehicles, while reflective stickers are mandatory on heavy vehicles to avoid fines.
