UAE plans record-breaking fireworks for New Year

DUBAI - A "never-before seen spectacle" on New Year's Eve is being planned in Ras Al Khaimah that organisers hope will create a new world record. The emirate staged a world-record breaking firework display to welcome the New Year in 2018. That show lasted 13 minutes, with fireworks from 120 locations, and went on to clinch a Guinness World Record for the largest aerial firework shell. Ras Al Khaimah is now planning to top that record to usher in 2019. This year's festive show will come with a big bang of mesmerising fireworks at an unprecedented scale, said organiser Marjan, Ras Al Khaimah's master-developer of freehold projects. Ras Al Khaimah aims to break the current record for longest straight-line fireworks display of 11.83-kilometres. The fireworks spectacle will set off in Al Marjan Island, with several viewing areas set up in and around the island, including Al Hamra Village and Al Wasl Street for revelers who want to watch the fireworks show. The fireworks show at Al Marjan Island will also come with a glittering array of activities.  The island will host entertainment activities and will be open to the public from 5pm on December 31 until 2am on January 1. Food, fun and games include food trucks, band performances, artists and street entertainers.
