Police in the UAE have arrested an Asian drug smuggler and confiscated 216kg of narcotics stashed in his residence. The Asian man was arrested in a raid by Sharjah Police in coordination with police forces from Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain. He told police the drugs belonged to four gangs. Lieutenant Colonel Majed Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department of Sharjah Police, said they acted on a tip-off that led to the suspect's arrest. Colonel Al Asam said that a team was formed to monitor the suspect, who arrived in the UAE on a flight from an Asian country. After close surveillance, Sharjah Police teams tracked the suspect to a house in a neighbouring emirate. Police also found out he planned to receive more drug shipment to be dropped off in one of the beaches in the UAE. During a raid of his residence, police found 216kg of narcotics, including 170kg of hashish, 46kg of crystal methamphetamine and 500,000 of Captagon tablets. A police investigation is underway to track and arrest the rest of the gangsters believed to be part of the drug haul.
