The Abu Dhabi Police issued a fresh warning over a recent surge in fake property listings targeting residents in the UAE. In a fresh advisory on Monday (July 15), the police force noted a surge of scams via social media, with fraudsters luring new victims with fake property listings promising low rental prices. Victims are then asked to deposit an amount in order to secure the property, which will later turn out to be non-existent. According to Abu Dhabi Police, prospective tenants should only deal with registered rental agencies. The police force also said that customers must always ask real estate agents or their representatives to show their Emirates ID. Before buying or renting a property, make sure it is registered with the relevant land authorities, and ensure that statements and documentation are registered and provided only in authorized offices, the police said. When making payments, make sure you get a sealed receipt, and always keep official contracts of your real estate transaction. In Dubai, authorities have warned real estate agents and companies to delete all their property advertisements from online platforms if these are no longer available for sale or rent.
