Selling your car online? Beware of scammers posing as buyers and using fake cheques, according to the Sharjah Police General Command. The fraudsters often strike during weekends and official holidays when banks don’t have financial operations, police said. Scammers contact potential victims during weekends and holidays to stall for time when striking a bogus deal. On the pretext of finalizing the car sale, scammers posing as car buyers deposit a fake cheque at an Automated Teller Machine. The seller would then receive a text message from the bank that a cheque had been deposited. This would prompt the seller to complete the sale and hand over their vehicle to the fraudsters. When the cheque is processed by the bank after the holiday or weekend, only then would the unsuspecting victim realize that the cheque was bogus and that the car deal was a scam.  ICA/Expat Media
