UAE Police: Dh400 Fine for Blocking Fast Lane

Did you know that if you drive on the fast lane and a vehicle behind you wants to overtake, you have to give way otherwise you will be blocking traffic and get fined Dh400? Many motorists are still unaware of this UAE traffic rule, believing that they can continue to stay on the fast lane as long as they are driving at the maximum speed limit. This was the reminder that Abu Dhabi Police issued on Sunday (October 1) as part of its traffic safety campaign. Under the UAE Federal Traffic Law, not making way for vehicles that have right of way or from the left overtaking lane can result in a fine of Dh400. The law also punishes tailgaters. Abu Dhabi Police also warned motorists against tailgating, saying that not leaving sufficient space between vehicles is one of the most common causes of traffic accidents. Tailgaters will be fined Dh400 and given four black points in their traffic file. Their vehicle may also be impounded, with a Dh5,000 fine to reclaim the impounded vehicle.
