UAE President inaugurates Dh4 billion Khalifa Port expansion to boost export, import operations

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan officially launched the $4 billion Khalifa Port expansion project. Sheikh Mohamed took a tour of the port's newest sections and the logistics support it offers for import and export operations. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed said, "The opening of the new South Quay at Khalifa Port is an important addition to our country's ports infrastructure. Its establishment expands on the long-standing contribution that the UAE's trade and logistics capabilities have made to the growth and development of our country." The President added, "The Khalifa Port Expansion Project is one of the quality national projects, which constitutes an essential expansion of the nation's ports and logistical services and strengthens the UAE's position in the movement of global trade. " According to Sheik Mohamed Bin Zayed, Khalifa Port and other national ports are a vital link in the growth and diversification of the national economy. The opening of the Khalifa Port is an additional significant accomplishment for which the Abu Dhabi Ports Group is proud. It joins several other achievements it made this year, including its listing on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange, opening new commercial lines, the conclusion of several acquisition deals, and a significant transformation of its business. The development of the southern berth, the logistics area, and the Abu Dhabi Ports was all part of the Khalifa Port expansion project, which cost a total of Dhs4 billion and increased the port's site from 2.43 to 8.63 square kilometers while also lengthening the quay wall from 2.3 to 12.5 kilometers. On December 12, 2012, the late Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan formally opened Khalifa Port, built on a plot of land sunk four kilometers beneath the ocean's surface. According to the Global Container Ports Performance Index (CPPI) published by the World Bank and the Global Market Intelligence Unit of Standard and Poor's, the port is among the top five ports in the world.
