UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with former US president Donald Trump on Thursday (September 26) as part of his first official visit to the US. Sheikh Mohamed recognized Trump's contributions to strengthening the relationship between the UAE and the US, which has grown over the past 50 years. Earlier this week, the UAE president was welcomed by US President Joe Biden at the White House, where strategic cooperation and regional issues were discussed. Biden acknowledged the UAE as a major defence partner of the US, with their talks focusing on topics such as the Gaza conflict and increasing instability in the Middle East. Sheikh Mohamed also met with US Vice President Kamala Harris, though the details of their discussion were not disclosed to the press. Both Harris and Trump are running in this year's US presidential election. The two countries established formal diplomatic ties in 1972, a year after UAE was founded.
