An Abu Dhabi mother sued a private school for receiving school tuition despite education authorities preventing it from reopening for the next academic year. According to court documents, the woman demanded that the school refund her Dh15,698 for her son's 2021-2022 tuition since the school never opened. She also requested 12% legal interest from issuing the verdict until payment. The woman said the school did not open for 2021-2022 owing to concerns with the educational authorities. However, it kept collecting school money from parents without offering an alternate school. The mother claimed that the school administration did not refund the tuition and that she had to transfer her son to another school and pay more tuition. She provided proof of her son's enrollment in another school and tuition invoices. The Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court dismissed the lawsuit, saying it was outside its jurisdiction. The judge referred the case to Abu Dhabi Commercial Court. BKM/ Expat Media
