The UAE Public Prosecution has issued a reminder regarding the consequences of using information networks to insult or defame others, warning that violators face imprisonment and hefty fines of up to Dh500,000. This warning was recently shared through their official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the statement, anyone found guilty of insulting another person or attributing punishable acts to them via the internet or any information system can be subject to penalties ranging from Dh250,000 to Dh500,000. Additionally, the individual could face imprisonment or a combination of both punishments. The prosecution emphasized that if the insult targets a public official or someone entrusted with a public service, the punishment will be more severe due to the aggravating circumstances of the offense. This strict stance on cyber-insults reflects the UAE's ongoing efforts to maintain digital decorum and protect individuals' reputations in an increasingly connected society.
