UAE railway linking Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah takes shape

DUBAI – Work is underway on a mega UAE railway connecting Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah, stage two of the Etihad Rail project. In a new video, Etihad Rail recently revealed the construction progress on the inter-emirate railway. Crews were seen digging through the Hajar mountains to lay out the tracks.

The latest updates on Package “D”, Stage Two of the project, which stretches across 145km and connects Fujairah Port with the rail network at the Dubai-Sharjah border. When complete, the UAE railway will span 145 kilometres linking Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah port. It will also have 15 tunnels and 35 bridges. The railway is designed for heavy cargo loads. The Etihad Rail project as a whole will stretch 1,000 kilometres from Ghuweifat on the border with Saudi Arabia, to Fujairah. It will also connect Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port and Mussaffah, with Jebel Ali port in Dubai and Fujairah port.
